AmeriGas distributes over 1 billion gallons of propane annually to over 1.8 million residential, commercial/industrial, motor fuel, agricultural and wholesale customers in all 50 states. Through the Partnership's AmeriGas Cylinder Exchange program, cylinders are available at over 50,000 retail locations throughout the United States.

AmeriGas serves its customers from approximately 1,900 propane distribution locations and has nearly 8,500 dedicated employees focused on fulfilling AmeriGas' commitment to be the most reliable, safest and most responsive propane company in the nation.

April 15th, 1959
UGITE Gas Incorporated acquired McNay Gas Corporation, operating as Ward Bottle Gas, in Ephrata, PA marking the company’s first venture in the propane market.
1973
UGITE was in 35 locations in eight states selling not only propane, but welding supplies at some of its offices in northwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
1977
UGITE acquired SEC Corp. of El Paso, Texas, a producer and distributor of carbon dioxide and other gases in 16 states, and established a dioxide division. The same year, AmeriGas was established as a subsidiary of UGI, replacing UGITE.
1983
UGI and Prudential Insurance form a joint venture and the AmeriGas LP Gas Division becomes A.P. Propane.
June 1987
AmeriGas (still as A.P. Propane) acquired Cal Gas and instantly became the fourth largest propane marketer in the United States. For the first time, AmeriGas had a coast-to-coast presence.
1990
AmeriGas bought back Prudential’s stake in A.P. Propane and formed AmeriGas Propane, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of UGI Corporation the following year.
1995
UGI completed the acquisition of Petrolane Inc., one of the nation’s largest propane marketers, and combined Petrolane with AmeriGas into a partnership called AmeriGas Partners, L.P., the nation’s largest propane company.
1997
AmeriGas began a pre-filled propane exchange business out of southern California called Amerigas PPX, the predecessor to Amerigas Cylinder Exchange.
2012
AmeriGas acquires Heritage Propane for $2.6 billion.
